Woubet Kassa is a Senior Economist at the World Bank, specifically within the Office of the Chief Economist for the Africa Region. A leading expert on international trade and regional integration, his work focuses on structural transformation, global value chains, and industrialization in Sub-Saharan Africa. He is a primary researcher on the impacts of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) and has co-authored influential books, including Africa in the New Trade Environment.
In addition to his policy work, Kassa serves as an Adjunct Professorial Lecturer at American University in Washington, D.C. He holds a PhD in Economics from American University and previously taught at Addis Ababa University in Ethiopia.
