Fabian Jäkel is an experienced international development professional who currently serves as an Advisor on Africa Policy for the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) through the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ). Since September 2023, he has been based in Berlin, following a three-year tenure as a Business Scout for Development seconded by GIZ to the industry association SPECTARIS. His career with GIZ spans over eight years, including significant field experience in Ethiopia as an advisor for the Skills Initiative for Africa (SIFA) and the Sport for Development program. Earlier in his career, he held various advisory roles in Bonn focusing on multi-stakeholder partnerships for the Agenda 2030 and completed internships with the German Embassy in Pretoria and the Friedrich Naumann Foundation in Honduras.
